3. NSE Holidays Falling on Weekends (No Extra Closure)
These major festivals fall on Saturday or Sunday in 2026, so the market remains closed as part of the regular weekly break:
- Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid): March 21 (Saturday)
- Independence Day: August 15 (Saturday)
- Diwali Laxmi Pujan: November 08 (Sunday) — Note: Markets open for 1 hour for Muhurat Trading.
4. Trading vs. Settlement Holidays: The Big Difference
Many traders get confused due to NSE holidays that when the market is “Open” but their funds don’t arrive.
- Trading Holiday: No buying or selling of shares. The exchange is shut.
- Settlement Holiday: The market is OPEN, but banks or clearing houses are closed.
- Example: On Gudi Padwa (March 19), you can trade normally, but your money from trades made on March 18 won’t hit your account until March 20.
5. MCX & Commodity Market Timing
The Commodity market (MCX) often stays open in the evening even when the morning session is closed.
- Morning Session: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Evening Session: 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM (often remains open on religious holidays like Holi or Ram Navami).
